Anime Pilgrimage Japan is a personal project run by me, Masamune, a Japan-based photographer.
This site focuses on real-life locations in Japan that appear in anime and manga, with the goal of helping international fans understand these places as they truly are — not just as fictional settings, but as real locations with their own atmosphere and context.
About Me
My name is Masamune, and I am a professional photographer working in Japan with over 10 years of experience.
I began photographing various locations across Japan through my work, but my connection to anime started more personally. My wife is a passionate anime fan and very knowledgeable about voice actors, and through her influence I began watching anime more seriously.
One turning point for me was watching The Dangers in My Heart (Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu).
Through this series, I became deeply aware of the passion, effort, and care that creators put into anime production. That experience made me want to support Japanese anime culture in my own way.
Why I Created This Site
As a photographer living in Japan, I realized that many anime pilgrimage guides online rely on reused information or secondhand sources.
Through this site, I aim to:
- Visit locations myself whenever possible
- Photograph real environments as they exist today
- Share accurate, experience-based information for anime fans traveling to Japan
I hope this project helps international visitors connect more deeply with both anime and the real places that inspired it.
